Rationale

In Table 2 for mechanical requirements, a width of 1.5 in. is specified for rectangular tension test specimens with a thickness less than 0.31 in. No width is specified for specimens with a thickness of 0.31 in. and over. In contrast, in A370, Section 10 it is described that plate-type specimens with a width of 1.500 in. are used for a nominal thickness of 3/16 (=0.1875) in. or over. According to Section 11, sheet-type specimens with a width of 0.500 in. are used for a nominal thickness of 0.005 in. to 1 in. The proposed revision eliminates this inconsistency by deleting the width requirement for specimens with a thickness less than 0.31 in. in Table 2.
