Rationale

Impact testing is currently required by several fastener standards: the F16 standard A354, A320, and the proposed revision of SAE J429. F606/F606M does not provide a test method for Impact Testing of fasteners. This proposed addition to F606/F606M specifies impact testing requirements that are applicable to fasteners, such as specimen location, notch orientation, and typical testing temperatures. Test Methods E23 is referenced for the general requirements and procedures. Also proposed is an Appendix providing non mandatory information on the purpose and applicability of impact testing for fasteners. NOTE TO VOTER: This ballot reflects comments received during two rounds of balloting, F16.01 SCLB (24-01) and F16 MCLB (24-02).
