ASTM WK96908
(1) Remove the Puffin/TW design in Table 1 for several reasons: (1) it is not listed in B232 or B856, (2) the design does not match the Aluminum Association Guide for Code Words for Overhead Aluminum Electrical Conductors, and (3) no technical basis or reference exists for Footnote F of Table 1. The Aluminum Association lists Puffin as 795 kcmil 22/7, which indicates a steel wire diameter of 0.1056". Footnote F of Table 1 says, "For 795 kcmil Type 10 (Puffin ACSR TW) conductor the indicated 0.1108 in. steel wire size does not correspond with the concentric round wire 795 kcmil 22/7 Puffin ACSR conductor. The round wire construction utilizes a 0.1056” diameter steel core wire. The industry accepted dimension for the Puffin ACSR TW steel wire is 0.1108 in. Technically this renders the construction as a Type 11 conductor. The conductor mass, rated strength and diameter values correspond to the 0.1108 in. diameter steel core." The 0.1108" steel core wire diameter is not industry-accepted. Rather than correct the design, it should be removed since the round wire design is not covered in B232 (ACSR) or B856 (ACSS). (2) Fix "Zen % -MM" references in 4.1.4 and 16.4 per B856. (3) Add Partridge/TW, Oriole/TW, Hen/TW, and Mallard/TW to Table 1. (4) Amend language in 3.1. (5) Add B957 and B958 references. (6) Change "galvanized" to "coated" in 10.2 per B856. (7) Fix Chukar/TW weight to 2061 per B856. (8) Fix Kingbird/TW properties.
