ASTM WK96876
This revision is proposed to update referenced standards, correct technical inaccuracies, align performance values with current material specifications, and enhance product traceability. The proposed changes are intended to maintain technical consistency, reflect current industry practices, and improve the clarity and applicability of the standard. Scope, Note 1 and 2 Referenced Documents: The reference to ASTM D1600 is proposed for removal. This standard has been withdrawn and is no longer an active or valid reference. Its exclusion ensures the standard remains in alignment with currently approved and applicable ASTM references. Clause 4.4 – Physical Requirements: Revise the specified minimum tensile strength and elongation values. The current values (10.0 MPa and 200%) are lower than those outlined in ASTM D3307, which defines the base PFA resin. Updating these values to 20.7 MPa (3000 psi) for tensile strength and 250% for elongation aligns the specification with recognized material properties and enhances product performance expectations. Clause 7.1.1 Conditioning– Modify the sentence “Since PFA does not absorb water” to read: “Since PFA has a very low water absorption rate”. This change provides a more accurate technical description of PFA behavior under conditioning conditions. which accurately reflects the polymer's characteristics while maintaining clarity in test conditioning requirements. Clause 7.1.5.1 and 7.1.5.2 Tensile Testing: Replace references to ASTM D4894 with ASTM D3307, as D4894 is applicable to PTFE, not PFA. ASTM D3307 is the appropriate standard for testing PFA-based materials and provides more relevant test procedures and criteria Clause 9.2 Marking (New Subclause Addition): A new subclause 9.2 shall be added to introduce a digital identification system in marking. Implementing a digital identification system enhances traceability and authenticity, enabling better tracking of products throughout the supply chain and ensuring quality assurance
