ASTM WK96565
Over the past 10 years as part of the ICRI Moisture Testing Certification program I have watched over 1500 technicians perform F2170. A question that comes up often is what does the within 30 days mean? Does it mean that one can check calibration on say June 1st and test 5 projects in the 30 days following without checking calibration again? I submit that we cannot allow testers to think in that matter. Let's say that one checks calibration on June 1st and not again until June 30th (30 days). Let's also say that the probe is found to be out of calibration on June 30th and that a moisture-related flooring failure took place on a project tested on June 15th. How can the tester defend the accuracy of the RH data they reported on that project? They can't ! In today's litigious world one needs to cross every T and dot every i. It is standard practice with every major firm I know that performs moisture testing to check the calibration of re-useable RH probes before every job, and some also recheck the same probes at the end of each testing project. I believe that the suggested wording provides sound advice Actual language vs new language refer to email document
