ASTM WK96299
Section 2.1 and Section 7.1 reference ASTM D1898, which has been withdrawn. These references should be removed if they do not add value. Section 6.1.4 mandates the use of a 500g load cell. We recommend deferring to the equipment manufacturer’s specifications to allow flexibility. Section 6.1.5 mentions a filter in the main text. We suggest removing this mention and instead adding a note that a filter may be used on the air line to prevent contamination of pneumatic grips. Section 6.2.1 includes overly prescriptive language regarding warm-up periods. This should be revised to defer to manufacturer recommendations. Section 6.2.5 describes a crosshead adjustment using dimensions “5 by 7 inches,” which implies surface area rather than a linear distance. This should be clarified to specify the intended measurement. Section 6.2.6 refers to testing speed but describes it as a distance. This should be corrected to reflect a rate Section 7.2 contains non-mandatory guidance that should be reclassified as a note. Section 8.2 specifies an unwinding speed that appears arbitrary. We recommend revising this to instruct users to unwind the film at a constant rate that avoids stretching or altering its appearance. Sections 9.1 and 9.2 reference ASTM D4332 for conditioning and testing. The specified temperature and humidity tolerances are challenging to maintain. We propose including ASTM D618 Procedure A as an alternative conditioning method. Section 10.2 specifies a specimen size that may cause overhang on the base. We suggest considering alternate dimensions, such as 5” × 12”, to improve fit and handling. Sections 10.14 and 10.15 reference chart recorders. These should be updated to reflect modern data acquisition methods. Section 10.17 currently allows flexibility in replicate collection. We propose tightening the language to make the collection of three replicates a mandatory requirement. Section 12.1 does not cite the research report used to generate the precision and bias data. We recommend including a reference to this report to improve traceability and support reproducibility. A table illustrating these results should also be included.
