Rationale

Note 11 contains mandatory language. The proposed change removes the occurrences of “shall” and clarifies the applicability for out-of-square measurements for specially shaped brick units. Linear dimensions and flat surfaces have ASTM C67 test methods for their measurement. Therefore, Tables 2, 3 and 4 would apply based on brick type. For non-linear dimensions and surfaces, there are currently no ASTM C67 test methods. Therefore, tolerances for size, warpage, and deviation from square would not apply from the tables. However, ASTM C15.02 task group Methods of Test is working on new methods for these non-linear dimensions and surfaces. Incorporation of this change would cover the new test methods as they are created without requiring additional edits of this section. Editorial changes have been made for clarity to the language provided in the June 2025 ASTM C15.02.03 Appearance Task Group meeting.
