New Practice for Data Capture for Shelf-Life Calculation
1. Scope
This practice standard describes the commonly accepted ways of practice of researching the classification of goods handling that are is specified for a given fresh or perishable good to maintain shelf life predictions, taking into account at a minimum the chain of custody documents with date and time stamps for each leg of the products journey toward consumption at the store level for the consumer, with the evidence of compliance with the specifications of product handling. This practice describes how to systematically and methodically capture the events and measurement data that may lead to adjustment of shelf life predictions. Keywords
compliance; consistent data capture; fresh produce; supply chainRationale
When fresh or perishable items are sourced from land owners who produce items for sale that need to be transported from their origin location to where the buyer will consume the goods at a retail location, or as part of a combining of products to make something new that is consumed. The farm to table supply chain can involve many value added steps, and between each value producer, the certificate of authentication and communication of expected handling requirements must be conveyed to any service providers who will have custody and control of the products in transport, or in supply chain handling activities. See GMP F3682 and Stakeholders F3776.
