ASTM WK95906
Revision of C67/C67M-24 Standard Test Methods for Sampling and Testing Brick and Structural Clay Tile
Rationale
C67 does not currently have instructions for how to measure the thickness of thin brick, especially when there is texture on the back surface. The following language has been developed by C15.02.01 (Methods of Test) for inclusion as section 13.3.1: "When thin brick units have back surface texture and the thickest width dimension is to be determined, move the measurement locations such that they are as near the midpoint of the measured surface without including the back surface indentations. When the thinnest width dimension is to be determined, move the measurement locations such that they as near the midpoint of the measured surface and include the back surface texture indentations. As it is likely that the back surface texture is provided in one direction, two measurements, taken at the opposite ends of the back surface texture indentation, are to be averaged. Repeat for each back surface texture feature in the surface and report the thinnest average measurement."
