New Practice for Requirements on Monitors for Analysis and Evaluation of Radiographs in NDT
1. Scope
The digitization of industrial radiographic imaging today encompasses the entire image processing chain, starting with the set-up of the image acquisition, through the image detector and image processing, to the display of images for evaluation and analysis on a monitor. The display of digital X-ray images is heavily dependent on the quality of the monitor system and the environmental conditions at the monitor location. The aim of this working group is to provide Level 2 and Level 3 personnel evaluating industrial radiographic two- and three-dimensional image data on a monitor with the necessary knowledge about the influence of the monitor, when relevant decisions about the quality of the inspected objects are to be made on the basis of the monitor image. This takes into account the different radiographic examinations with their different requirements for the quality of the evaluation. Quality classes of monitors are defined for this purpose. Also, the environment in which the evaluation takes place is divided into room classes. Examples are the evaluation of image data on the monitor in series production of a factory hall with bar-shaped ceiling lighting or, on the other hand, in a darkened, separate room with defined lighting conditions are mentioned here as extremes. Measurement procedures for essential parameters will be developed and tested in the task group to characterize the essential monitor properties. Keywords
