Rationale

This proposed revision addresses two sections of standard A420. The first adds a reference to the Heat Treatment section of A960, in the section of A420 that stipulates the control of furnace temperature associated with sampling for impact testing (10.4.3). Simultaneously it deletes the required furnace temperature variation permitted, as this is not clear in A420 and is more precisely stated in A960. Hence, the revision will point the reader of A420 to A960 where the requirements are clearly stated. Second, product marking of impact test temperature in section 19.1.5 of A420 is inconsistent with MSS SP-75. The subcommittee desires to harmonize with SP-75 as it considers the wording of SP-75 to be an improvement.
