ASTM WK94913

Revision of B166-24 Standard Specification for Nickel-Chromium-Aluminum Alloy, Nickel-Chromium-Iron Alloys, Nickel-Chromium-Cobalt-Molybdenum Alloy, Nickel-Iron-Chromium-Tungsten Alloy, and Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum-Copper Alloy Rod, Bar, and Wire

Rationale

Nickel and Nickel alloy specifications are inconsistent in allowing for retests. General specification B906 Standard Specification for General Requirements for Flat-Rolled Nickel and Nickel Alloys Plate, Sheet, and Strip as well as product specifications B335, B574, B662 and B691 allow for retests of two additional specimens if a single specimen fails. Allowance for retests is common in the general specifications for Stainless Steel product forms, such as A484 Standard Specification for General Requirements for Stainless Steel Bars, Billets, Shapes, and Forgings and A555 Standard Specification for General Requirements for Stainless Steel Wire and Wire Rods as examples. This ballot item is to add Retests to B446 to be consistent with other Nickel alloy and Stainless Steel alloy specifications and to prevent a single poor test sample from causing rejection of an entire lot.
