New Guide for Fatigue and Damage Tolerance (F&DT) and NDI Considerations for Metal AM Components in Aerospace
1. Scope
Development of a Standard Guide that addresses the essential technical and regulatory consideration for F&DT and NDI assessment of metal AM aircraft and engine structures. This work will be a continuation of the working group that supported the breakout sessions with the same focus area over the past few years of the joint FAA – EASA Additive Manufacturing Workshops, and generated a significant volume of technical materials suitable for a standard guide publication (intended as a technical white paper). The group includes representatives of several major aerospace OEMs, suppliers, research organizations and regulatory agencies with significant experience in F&DT and NDI of metallic structures, as well as experience with AM applications. Representatives from ASTM F42 and E07 committees will be invited to participate, as well as members of the AIA AM WG.Keywords

The use of Additive Manufacturing gradually expands into higher criticality applications that necessitate fatigue and damage tolerance assessment for high-impact applications like Aerospace. The intent of this document is to provide guidance on the F&DT assessment of metal AM parts and structures in Aerospace.
