New Practice for Onsite Exfiltration Acceptance Testing of Precast Concrete Water and Wastewater Structures
1. Scope
This practice covers procedures for onsite testing precast concrete water and wastewater structures using exfiltration acceptance limits to demonstrate the integrity of the installed materials, including structural integrity, and construction processes, with the exception of items included under the scope of Specification C1227 or C1613. Methods described herein are not intended to be used at the point of manufacture prior to delivery and assembly. Any disassembly or addition of components after performing this practice would invalidate the results.
Keywords

Rationale
Currently there is no ASTM standard for the practice of onsite hydrostatic testing of precast concrete structures, particularly structures composed of one or more assembled sections. References to hydrostatic test methods exist in specific sections of ASTM C969, ASTM C1227 and ASTM C1613, but those procedures are specific to products listed in the scopes of those standards and exclude other precast concrete structures. This standard establishes exfiltration acceptance testing criteria for other precast concrete water and wastewater structures and matches the criteria in ASTM C969 for circular manholes. The scope of this practice clearly indicates that it is not for use at the manufacturing facility prior to delivery.
