Rationale

The pedestal-set slab test setup is shown in Fig. A8.5 in Annex A8, Test Procedures for Segmental Concrete Paving Slabs and Pedestal-Set Concrete Paving Slabs. The figure shows the slab support pad positioning as described in A8.4.4.1. A comment from a previous ballot suggested that the figure be modified to better clarify that the slab support length and width are equal to the slab thickness. This ballot item includes a new Fig. A8.5 that designates the slab thickness with the notation ‘d’. This notation for thickness is already used in equation A8.1 in A8.4.3.10 (and is shown in this ballot item for informational clarity). Besides proposing the new Fig. A8.5, this ballot item also inserts the notation ‘d’ in A8.3.3 on thickness measurement to make this section consistent with A8.3.2 on length and width measurements.
