Rationale

There is a need for immersion inspection instructions in A388 since ASME Section V T571.2 permits ultrasonic immersion inspection, but provides no details of the applicable immersion techniques or when they should be used. A388 does not currently address ultrasonic immersion inspection, but it should since it is referenced by the ASME Code.
