Production welding is an important term because it's used so widely it can be easily misinterpreted when used within ASTM specifications, particularly since A488 is referenced by many others. It also promotes consistency with ISO and other standards, and resolves clarification compared to welding for the "repair" of a broken part regardless of product form.
