ASTM WK90347
We would like to propose initial practice to extract additively constructed concrete samples for mechanical testing. In practice there is a significant difference between the behavior of cast components versus additively constructed components using cementitious materials. The mechanical properties obtained from samples extracted from components built using additive construction versus cast construction are significantly different, and are in many instances lower in magnitude. The practice is intended to define the methods to obtain samples from additively constructed concrete and mortar components. This practice will provide a universal procedure for producers to extract samples for the determination of material properties. This will provide architects, engineers and approval agencies a means to identify the way that samples are obtained and prepared in-situ or in a laboratory/factory. This practice will allow architects and engineers to have better understanding of sample production for determining the representative mechanical properties of components built using additive construction. The principles in this practice will be applicable to AC building components cured at least 7 days for laboratory and in-situ conditions.
