Project: 91-2023-05 Addition of the term Cannabinoid Product to D8270 Standards Terminology Related to Cannabis Rationale: Cannabinoids are being introduced into the international marketplace for use as ingredients in products. Cannabinoids occur naturally in high concentration in the flowering tops and resins of Cannabis plants and can be obtained from several sources including Cannabis plants that can be regulatorily classified as “marijuana” and those that can be regulatorily classified as “hemp”, genetically modified organisms, and chemical synthesis. Because of this, there exists a need for a standardized term for describing products that contain or comprise cannabinoids in a clear and concise manner. The term being proposed is: “cannabinoid product.” The purpose of this term is to provide a harmonized definition for this emerging product category. This ballot is to codify this term into ASTM D8270 Standard Terminology Related to Cannabis.
