New Practice for Standard Practice for the Inspection of Steel Castings using Phased Array Ultrasound
1. Scope
1.1 This procedure covers the general requirements for the phased array ultrasonic (PAUT) inspection of steel castings.
1.2 This procedure is to be used when the inquiry, contract, order or specification states that steel castings are to be inspected with PAUT.
1.2.1 Both 0o and a refracting wedge technique may be employed in the inspection of steel castings.

Rationale
There is not currently a standard for the use of PAUT in the inspection of steel castings. Companies are reluctant to incorporate an inspection method without a standard to follow and provide to their customers.
