Rationale

The FAA and DoD have adopted and are utilizing specifications for fuel resistant asphalt that specify the maximum acceptable particle loss by mass after fuel immersion (FML) for a mixture to be considered fuel resistant. The test procedure for determining fuel resistance is currently outlined within the agency specifications themselves rather than referencing a standardized test method. The purpose of this proposed standard is to (1) develop a standardized test method for agencies to reference for specifying fuel resistant mixtures and (2) standardize the determination of the effects of fuel.
