New Practice for Robotic Assembly Task Boards: Recording Assembly Test Configuration

1. Scope
This standard practice provides an accepted procedure for documenting the configuration of a robotic assembly task board (ATB) test configuration. The information in this practice provides instructions for documentation, a test report, guidance for the design and selection of parts/tasks, and example configurations of the robotic assembly task board. The report includes details of the relevant characteristics of the task boards to be documented, including but not limited to physical properties, dimensions, parts, Bill of Materials (BOM), etc. Finally, completed example test reports are provided to demonstrate several ATB configurations options.
Keywords
Assembly Task Board (ATB); Kit mat; assembly; disassembly; sub-assembly
Rationale

Manufacturers and robotics researchers utilizing robotic assembly require operations and parts that are often not included in the original example ATB. They will often create their own task boards catered to their needs at that time. There is a need for a standard practice in recording the task and test configuration such that researchers can continue to compare their test configuration to the configuration that may be displayed in a different lab while maintaining the design rationale behind the established ATB. This practice is intended to be used with the “Standard test method for robotic assembly task boards: Benchmarking performance” which standardizes the procedure to run a test on an assembly task board.
