Rationale

ASTM C856 includes information on evaluation for specific deterioration mechanisms within concrete and concrete products or portion thereof. The goal of this work item is to take out the specific information about deterioration mechanisms and insert it into an appendix, leaving ASTM C856 with information on general standard evaluation practice. As is, the document does not encompass all mechanisms of deterioration. The appendix, which will be a separate work item, will aim to include all mechanisms of deterioration.
