ASTM WK80764
Mercury intrusion is frequently used to characterize the pore structure of advanced ceramics. Currently no international standards exist that provide guidance on appropriate analysis methods and parameters specific to advanced ceramic materials. In addition, this method requires special guidance on the safe use of mercury for this type of analysis as no other method has been found that has the ability to characterize porous materials over such a wide range of pore sizes in a single technique. This test method provides such guidance on safe usage of mercury porosimetry, and references publications on safe usage by internationally accredited bodies such as the International Union on Pure and Applied Chemistry. Subcommittee C28.03 therefore feels that it is important to develop and publish this test method.
