New Guide for Reference Radiographs and Digital Reference Images
1. Scope
Reference radiographs assist the interpreter by replacing a word specification into a radiograph illustration of real indications in real radiographs. It is often said that one picture is worth a thousand words. This is especially true when trying to describe the appearance of certain types of discontinuities which are so often seen in radiography. There are many sets of reference radiographs. They can be grouped into 5 categories: castings, weldments, demonstration, film digitization, and visual acuity. This Guide explains the categories and how reference radiographs are used. The history of development of reference radiographs will also be included.
