At the time C1271 was originally written EDXRF was not a suitable technique for the analysis of lime and limestone. Improvements in the EDXRF instruments now allows EDXRF to be a suitable alternative to analysis by wavelength dispersive XRF (WDXRF). EDXRF is already used to analyze lime and limestone in many locations around the world and therefore either C1271 needs to modified to accept EDXRF instruments or a new standard is needed specifically for EDXRF analysis of lime and limestone.
