New Practice for DNA Extraction in Environmental Water Samples
1. Scope
This Practice discusses DNA extraction of environmental samples from environmental waters. It also discusses pre-processing of samples, removal of inhibitors, cleanup procedures, quality assurance procedures, data qualifiers, and corrective actions.
Users of molecular biological tools need a standard practice for DNA extraction so that they know that the results provided by one laboratory are comparable to those developed by another laboratory. Consistency in procedures and results will foster greater usage of molecular tools.
