Rationale

This Standard does not recommend conducting flood tests as part of a routine quality-control or quality-assurance program for new conventional roof systems. However, this standard is frequently misused in the industry. Despite the fact that roofs are excluded from this standard, ASTM D5957 (modified) is often referenced in specifications and utilized to evaluate the performance of newly installed roofs. The task group is proposing the following changes to bring clarity to the standard, as well as a non-mandatory appendix to provide guidance to users on alternative methods to evaluate the performance of newly installed roofs.
