ASTM Committee F33 on Detention and Correctional Facilities was formed in 1989. F33 meets three times a year in conjunction with the American Jail Association and American Correctional Association Conferences, with about 35 members attending 1 1/2 days of technical meetings. The Committee, with a membership of 48, currently has jurisdiction of over 10 standards, published in the Annual book of ASTM Standards, Volume 15.08. F33 has 4 technical subcommittees. These standards have and continue to play a preeminent role in all aspects important to the materials, products, assemblies, and systems used in the construction and operation of lockups and detention and correctional facilities for adults and juveniles.
