a. Aromatic hydrocarbons covered by this scope include monocyclic and polycyclic carbon-ring structures recovered or synthesized from any source, and which are intended primarily for use as solvents or raw materials for chemical synthesis.
b. Related chemicals covered by this scope include chemicals such as cycloalkanes, phenols, arylthiols, heterocyclics and other chemicals synthesized from ring structures.
c. Industrial and specialty chemicals covered by this scope include acids and caustics, glycols, acrylonitrile and chlorine. Excluded from the scope are paraffinic and olefinic hydrocarbons, and those aromatic and cyclic aliphatic hydrocarbons that are intended primarily for fuels and lubricants.
d. To develop and formulate specifications, test methods, practices and guides for aromatic hydrocarbons, industrial and specialty chemicals and related products.
e. To develop methods for sampling products this committee is responsible for.
f. To establish precision and bias statements for standard test methods
g. To develop and formulate standard terminology,
h. To encourage the use of uniform standards;
i. To establish new chemical product committees when their need becomes evident.
j. The work of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM Committees and other organizations having mutual interest.
