ASTM Committee E44 on Solar, Geothermal and Other Alternative Energy Sources was formed in 1978. E44 meets once a year, at the November Committee Week, with about 10 members attending over two days of technical meetings capped by a discussion on relevant topics in the Solar Energy industry. The Committee, with a current membership of approximately 70, has jurisdiction over 49 standards, published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, Volume 12.02. E44 has 5 technical subcommittees that maintain jurisdiction over these standards. Information on this subcommittee structure and E44's portfolio of approved standards and Work Items under development are available from the List of Subcommittees and Standards. These standards have and continue to play a preeminent role in all aspects important to the technology for conversion of solar and geothermal renewable energy to directly usable energy forms.
