ASTM Committee D20 on Plastics was formed in 1937. D20 meets twice a year in April and November with about 180 members attending three days of technical meetings. The Committee, with a membership of 1086, currently has jurisdiction of over 470 standards, published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, Section 8 on Plastics. D20 has 23 technical subcommittees that maintain jurisdiction over these standards. Information on this subcommittee structure and D20's portfolio of approved standards and work items under development are available from the List of Subcommittees, Standards and Work Items below. These standards have and continue to play a preeminent role in all aspects important to the effective utilization of plastics, including specimen preparation, material specifications and methodologies for mechanical, thermal, optical and analytical testing. D20 also houses the US Technical Advisory Group is ISO Technical Committee 61 on Plastics, developing US positions and representing the United States in the ISO arena. D20 sponsors two technical and professional training courses - one on Testing Techniques of Plastics and one on "Instrumental Analysis of Polymers." D20 sponsors four proficiency programs - one for multiplastics mechanical properties, one for polyethyelene, one for polypropylene mechanical properties, and one for flammability plastics testing.More
