New Guide for Constant Voltage AC Analogue for Systems and Equipment in Alternating Current Electric Vehicle Charging

1. Scope

1.1 This guideline covers national and international standards for comparatively low-output electric vehicle charging from level 2 and level 3 alternating current (AC) electric vehicle (EV) chargers, as defined by the SAE J1772_201710 and SAE J3068_202207 standards, respectively.
1.2 The applicant for a design approval must seek the individual guidance of the National Electric Code (NEC) body or comparable municipal body concerning the use of this guideline as part of a system or piece of equipment. For information on which regulatory bodies have accepted this practice (in whole or in part) as a means of compliance to their electric vehicle chargers (EVCs) (hereinafter referred to as “the Rules”), refer to ASTM E60 webpage (www.ASTM.org/COMMITTEE/E60.htm) which includes necessary website links.
1.3 The values stated in amperes units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

Keywords

electric vehicle, chargers, EV, alternating current, low-output electric charging

Rationale

Present a more efficient solution for electric vehicle charging by dynamically changing the output state for an electric vehicle from Level 2 or Level 3 alternating current (AC) to Level 1 AC output.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
