New Specification for Children's Standing Towers

1. Scope

- Create a consumer safety specification that covers the performance requirements and methods of test to ensure the satisfactory performance of a Children's Standing Tower.
- This consumer safety specification is intended to minimize injuries to children resulting from normal usage and reasonably foreseeable misuse or abuse of a Children's Standing Tower.
- It will address (at a minimum) head entrapment, tip over, safety restraints/bars, durability, potential for falls, and pinch points.
- For purposes of this consumer safety specification, a Children's Standing Tower is a free-standing step stool that elevates a child to standard countertop height. The standing tower is made for the purpose of holding a child, up to 6 years of age, who can remain in a standing position due to the child’s own coordination, and normally for the purposes of helping with and/or observing normal kitchen and other learning activities. The standing tower may be height adjustable.
