1.1 This guide covers the provision of information that demonstrates conformance to relevant standards and/or specifications for metal fasteners. Such documents include, but are not limited to Test Reports, Certificates of Conformance, Records of Conformance, and Statements of Compliance. Throughout this practice, all such documents are generically referred to as “conformance documents.”
certifications; product certificates; MTR; conformance; test data
The format and content of fastener quality assurance documents, such as test reports, certifications, certificates of conformance, and certificates of compliance, can vary widely. This can be a source of confusion and delays when user needs and expectations differ significantly from the content and format that manufacturers and responsible parties provide. Since there is not a standardized approach, it is the intention of the proposed document to provide practices and guidelines that encompass industry accepted practices, as well as related standards. This could facilitate the ease of using reported fastener quality assurance information as a basis for qualifying fastener lots. Furthermore, it is intended that this ASTM Practice could be included in appropriate ASTM F16 standards as a supplement, as those standards come up for revision or reaffirmation.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
