Scope: The Design, Fabrication Method, Testing, Pressure Qualification, and Quality Assurance of 8-inch to 24-inch ductile thermoplastic pipe with infused, orthotropic, fiber reinforcement.
FRP, Thermoplastic Reinforced Pipe, High Pressure Polyethylene Pipe
Large diameter, fiber-reinforced, ductile thermoplastic non-spoolable stick pipe . The protocols for testing and qualifying the operating pressure of Composite Thermosetting EPOXY-Fiberglass pipe is not directly applicable to Composite Thermoplastic-Fiberglass pipe because the epoxy matrix fails and weeps, where-as the ductile thermoplastic matrix ( ie: HDPE) does not crack nor weep in hydrostatic testing. The composite pipe design is a "thick" thermoplastic pipe (not a "liner") encased in a same-resin thermoplastic-fiberglass tape, both being cohesively melt-bonded together. The orthotropic reinforcement and dual-layer-wall design enables butt-heat fusion of pipe segments, within useful higher-pressure ranges, for burred pipelines. No standard or group of standards covers this unique combination of design and material elements, thus requiring a new product and performance requirements standard
