New Guide for Controlling Quality of Computed Tomography Dimensional Measurements by Using Representative Quality Indicators (RQIs)

1. Scope

Develop a standard guide to provide recommendations for using representative quality indicators (RQIs) to determine bias and precision in dimensional measurements made by X-ray computed tomography (CT) of unique materials or processes, or both, for which conventionally designed image quality indicators (IQIs) may be inadequate.

Rationale

Users of X-ray computed tomography systems need a guide that will enable them to understand and control the quality of dimensional measurements performed on their samples. Given that the quality of X-ray computed tomography measurements is strongly dependent on the size, shape, and material composition of the measured sample, and on the acquisition parameters, conventional image quality indicators (IQIs) are not adequate.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
