Please note that this is a non-binding addition to the appendix.
The Restraint Determination Diagram (Fig. 2) is to be used in the design stage to identify the appropriate type of restraint for a new ride based on design accelerations. In 2016, a non-binding method for using measured acceleration data to validate restraint classification using a derivative diagram, Fig. X1.1, was added to the appendix. This method has some shortcomings - the most significant being the lack of including the duration of any –Gz accelerations in the analysis. In practice, many rides, especially those that have clearance between the running and upstop wheels, have design accelerations of 0 Gz but measured short duration, low level –Gz accelerations that unnecessarily push them into the next higher restraint class. The proposed paragraph allows a more complete analysis of patron displacement based on measured acceleration data for validation of restraint classification.
