New Test Method for Proficiency Test Plan for the Characterization and Evaluation of High-Dose Dosimetry Techniques in Radiation Processing

1. Scope

The purpose of the test plan is to provide a defined process to perform an intercomparison in Cobalt-60 gamma fields, X-Ray fields and electron fields using transfer dosimeters (supplied by the Approved Laboratory) and routine dosimeters (supplied by the irradiation facility) in order to quantify the difference in dose quoted by the participants, including laboratory-to-laboratory differences.
Proficiency testing described in this plan include irradiation facilities and approved laboratory comparisons. Proficiency tests can validate the approved laboratory’s and irradiation facility’s measurement method, technical training, traceability of standards, and uncertainty budgets. The tests will also help to quantify the difference in dose for the approved laboratories.

Keywords

Proficiency Testing; Accreditation

Rationale

Like other PTPs, this standard will enable approved laboratories and irradiation facilities to evaluate and improve performance, and help demonstrate measurement traceability in radiation processing.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
