The guide covers several critical aspects for assessing, evaluating and interpreting PFAS data received from analytical laboratories: project planning, data quality assessment, data usability , and ultimately, data validation and evaluation. The guide discusses published USEPA analytical methods, although some US government, state and International approaches to data quality assessment and usability are presented.
QA/QC
This new standard guide is needed because many laboratories have veered away from the two EPA methods because they are only relevant for drinking water. All other samples must be analyzed by modifications of these prescriptive methods and the lab-specific SOP comes with its own acceptance criteria. This guide gives data validators a tool for reviewing results developed by these non-standard methods.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
