1. Scope

This practice applies to the classification, design, manufacture, construction, operation, maintenance, and inspection of Wave Generation Equipment within Surf Venues. Wave Generation Equipment within Surf Venues shall be defined as a system that includes: 1) A facility designed to create ocean like surfable waves 2) A shoaling wave within an enclosed body of water that breaks progressively at a predominately oblique angle towards shallow water, ie, a beach. 3) A variety of wave generation mechanisms to create the surfable wave, including but not limited to, dynamic moving objects, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc.

Wave Generation; Surf; Surf Venues

Due to the sporting nature of surfing, a surf wave generation system is a specialty amusement attraction does not really fit within any current ASTM standard. The development of surf venues is an expanding industry and developers of these specialty attractions need a standard to assist in design, permitting processes, construction, and operational expectations.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
