Tool used for mineral ID purposes. Main limitations are procuring equipment and expertise. Several presentations have been done at Johnson Conferences on this topic. Two paths ASTM could follow: 1) Produce guidelines for how to use EBSD for phase discrimination, data quality, how to interpret, etc., and 2) incorporate into existing methods for collecting diffraction data for particulate ID. F. Ehrenfeld indicated European colleagues have shown interest. Technique can be used on particulate material as well as polished materials.
