New Test Methods for Determination of the Soluble Salt Contamination of a Blast Cleaned Steel Surface Using the Saturated Filter Paper Sampling Method

1. Scope

1.1 These test methods cover procedures for determining the level of soluble salt contamination on the surface of blast cleaned steel immediately prior to the application of protective paint surfaces by extracting the salts using a filter paper saturated with high purity water and testing the conductivity of the resultant salt contaminated filter paper.

Keywords

salt contamination; chloride testing; steel surface cleanliness

Rationale

This standard is needed because there is no existing standard using this method to determine soluble salts on blast cleaned steel surfaces.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
