New Classification for Knots Used In Rope Rescue

1. Scope

The promotion of knowledge and the development of standards (classifications, guides, practices, specifications, terminology, and test methods) for search and rescue activities.
The work of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM Committees and outside organizations working in this field to avoid duplication of effort.

Bend, hitch, knot, rope, rescue

Rope rescuers use a variety of knots to perform rescue operations. These knots may have several names, which leads to confusion amongst users when it comes to descriptions and applications. This guide defines many rope rescue knots, identifies each by its most common name, lists other common names, and includes a photograph of each knot to prevent ambiguity. This guide will be used by search and rescue organizations as well as others who wish to be able to clearly define what knots they refer to in training, documents, etc.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
