New Guide for Application of Hot-Applied Rubberized Asphalt for Roofing and Waterproofing

1. Scope

1.1 This guide provides recommended procedures for the installation of hot-applied rubberized asphalt (HRA) membrane for roofing and waterproofing applications in which the membrane will be protected as soon as possible from sunlight and potential physical damage. This guide shall be applied to material that conforms with ASTM _____, Hot-Applied Rubberized Asphalt used for Roofing and Waterproofing. 1.2 This guide applies to two typical roofing and waterproofing system applications: fabric-reinforced HRA membranes and unreinforced HRA membranes. Fabric-reinforced HRA roofing and waterproofing is the predominant system currently used in the industry. 1.3 This guide is intended primarily for new construction but includes general guidelines for installations on existing, undamaged structural concrete and panelized substrates deemed in good repair by the project team and HRA membrane manufacturer. 1.4 Typical applications include protected membrane roofing systems and waterproofing concrete slab construction on plaza decks, parking garages, split slabs, highway bridge decks, roof terraces, pedestrian concourses or podiums, foundation walls, reflective pools, and planters. 1.5 Units--The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. Values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
