New Test Method for Evaluating Equine Surface Footing Materials for Particle Size Distribution and Shape

1. Scope

This scope of this standard is to establish a practice whereby equine surface materials may be evaluated for particle size distribution evaluation and shape.

Keywords

Particle Size Evaluation, Soil, Sand, Silt, Clay, Equine Surface, Footings, Horse, Equestrian, Racing, Arena, Rodeo, Dressage

Rationale

Venue managers for equestrian facilities often desire to have their footings material evaluated. However, there is a lack of consistency in test methods between labs especially between agronomic-type labs and engineering-highway labs. This practice purports to define the test methods which should be used in evaluating soil material for equine surface footings.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
