New Guide for Performing Oxygen Compatibility Assessments on Oxygen Components and Systems

1. Scope

This guide provides a procedure to systematically assess the suitability of a material, component, or system for use in or with an oxygen-enriched environment. The assessment is limited to the fire hazards of the item being evaluated. It enables users to determine areas of concern and or the risk of fire hazards with respect to oxygen compatibility and, ultimately, prevent damage to a system or injury to personnel. This evaluation process does not address other important aspects of the suitability such as strength of materials, corrosion, toxicity, age effects or other design considerations for which well-known practices are available.
