The Committee shall prepare specifications, test methods, terminology, practices, and guides related to masonry, consisting of manufactured masonry units formed using inorganic materials, mortars, grouts, and assemblies of these materials. Manufactured masonry units under the scope of this committee include, but are not limited to, fired clay and shale, concrete, calcium-silicate, and autoclaved aerated concrete. The Committee shall also prepare standards for the use of masonry in site-built and prefabricated elements and structures.

Units for use as refractories are excluded from the scope of the Committee.

The Committee shall encourage research and expand knowledge on the manufacturing and use of manufactured masonry units, mortars, and grouts, as well as on masonry building elements and construction.

The work of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM committees and other organizations having mutual interest.
