Committee D16 on Aromatic, Industrial, Specialty and Related Chemicals

    Staff Manager: Kristy Straiton 610-832-9640

    Committee Scope

To develop and formulate standard terminology, specifications, test methods, practices and guides for aromatic hydrocarbons, industrial and specialty chemicals and related products. To encourage the use of uniform standards; to establish precision and bias statements for standard test methods; and to establish new chemical product committees when their need becomes evident. Aromatic hydrocarbons covered by this scope include monocyclic and polycyclic carbon-ring structures recovered or synthesized from any source, and which are intended primarily for use as solvents or raw materials for chemical synthesis. Related chemicals covered by this scope include chemicals such as cycloalkanes, phenols, arylthiols, heterocyclics and other chemicals synthesized from ring structures. Industrial and specialty chemicals covered by this scope include acids and caustics, glycols, acrylonitrile and chlorine. Excluded from the scope are paraffinic and olefinic hydrocarbons, and those aromatic and cyclic aliphatic hydrocarbons that are intended primarily for fuels and lubricants. The work of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM Committees and other organizations having mutual interest.
