Revision of D7668-17 Standard Test Method for Determination of Derived Cetane Number (DCN) of Diesel Fuel Oils—Ignition Delay and Combustion Delay Using a Constant Volume Combustion Chamber Method

Rationale

At the December D02.01D meeting a presentation on a new correlation equation based on data obtained from several diesel exchange groups such as ASTM NEG. The new equation indicates improved correlation to higher cetane number, while maintaining correlation to current cetane number. A statistical summary by Alex Lau indicated an improved DCN precision, no change in the relative bias condition, and an updated Rxy equation. A motion was moved and passed to ballot revisions to D7668 to update the correlation equation, the precision for DCN, and Rxy equation. The research report supporting this revision is attached for information.
